It’s been 20 years since the first iconic red hot air balloon took to the skies in Bagan, Myanmar.

Founded in 1999, Balloons Over Bagan became the first ever commercial hot air balloon operation in Southeast Asia. Travellers from all over the world came to Myanmar for this flight of a lifetime. And Myanmar was ready to show its best to the world.

Since then, Balloons Over Bagan has expanded to offer flights in Inle and Loikaw, each destination offering a unique experience as passengers float over temple plains, majestic lakes and bustling markets, while the balloon is gently directed by the cooling winds of the morning.

What does a Balloons Over Bagan (or Inle, or Loikaw) flight feel like?

The adventure starts with a short journey to a dedicated launch site. The morning light reveals our teams busy at work preparing the balloons against a backdrop of the local scenery, shrouded in mist. There is time for tea, coffee and refreshments before the all important safety briefing.

With the balloon now standing upright, it is time to climb on board. Our helpful crew is on hand to assist passengers into the basket. The balloon is guided by gentle winds not exceeding 15 mph, offering a serene and peaceful bird’s-eye view of local sights.

Using his skill and years of flight experience, the pilot is able to guide the balloon to a gentle landing where our friendly and experienced crew will be waiting with delicious snacks and a glass or two of sparkling wine to complete the post-flight celebration.

Balloons over Bagan is also proud of our perfect safety record since our inception 20 years ago. Ensuring our passengers’ safety and comfort has always been a priority, and we look forward to welcoming you on board.

Where will we go next? Perhaps, wherever the wind blows.
